A coalition of groups is seeking city approval for an $18M apartment development in Logan Square dedicated to two activists prominent in the neighborhood's LGBQT and affordable housing communities. The John Pennycuff apartments at Robert Castillo Plaza will be presented to the city planning committee next month.

John Pennycuff died in 2012, but husband Robert Castillo continues to strive for affordable housing and gay rights in Logan Square. This development stands out because none of its 86 apartments will be market rate, DNA Info reports. Instead, the units will be split between affordable housing and allotments for CHA units. The building will also be a safe haven for LGBQT renters.

Ald. Proco "Joe" Moreno (1st) who supports the project, estimates there will be $2M to $2.5M in tax increment financing earmarked for the project. [DNA]
