The Hilton Chicago O'Hare will be modernized to accommodate large trade shows under a plan proposed by the Chicago Department of Aviation.

Airport hotels are sound investments and economic drivers for tourism and trade show business. The Chicago Department of Aviation is taking advantage; it's planning to double the hotel capacity at O'Hare International Airport.

The Aviation Department wants to modernize the Hilton Chicago O'Hare (shown) to attract more conferences and trade shows. It will accept RFPs in the fall for a new 300- to 400-room hotel adjacent to international Terminal 5 with direct access to the airport via its 24-hour airport transit system and up to 65k SF of conference space.

A second hotel is planned for a mixed-use project already underway on Mannheim Road, near O'Hare's northeast edge, with an expected 150 to 200 rooms.
