Airbnb Hires Chicago Alderman As Adviser
One of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's most reliable votes in City Council is resigning. Ald. Will Burns (4th) is moving to Airbnb, where he'll be a senior adviser and director of Midwest policy.
Airbnb has increasingly found itself at odds with the city over issues ranging from short-term rental licenses to a proposed 2% service charge on all Airbnb rentals, in addition to the city's hotel tax and Cook County sales tax.
Burns was elected 4th Ward alderman in 2011, with the backing of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle.
