Retail sales saw an unexpected uptick nationwide in July, and in fact have recently been higher than during the months just before the Great Recession (during that misty, hard-to-remember era called 2007). Are all Chicago-area retail landlords reaping the benefits of the recovery? Not quite. Robert K. Futterman & Associates VP Lorraine Adney, who recently joined the company in its Chicago office, says that there’s a duality in retail. “Landlords with A properties are experiencing a surge in leasing activity and good tenants are competing to lease space from them,” she tells us. “Landlords with lesser sites must be circumspect in their pricing and willing to get creative...to attract the same tenants.”
