Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services put a dent into our set-in-stone structure for the Bisnow Top 100 Leaders series. Instead of one profile, we got three-for-one. This is going to throw off our math. Perhaps we should just start from the beginning.
Specializing in real estate sales in the $2-10M range, M&M?s Steven Weinstock, John Pryzbyla, and Greg LaBerge make their living doing the same thing many are now forced to do, after the recession eliminated larger deals. Apartment buildings, senior housing and essential retail, like auto repair shops and dollar stores, have been mainstays for the firm during the recession. The company has almost 100 agents in Chicago and 1,400 nationwide in 72 offices.
Steven manages the firm's Oak Brook office, John Downtown, and Greg handles O'Hara, but the company's spirit of teamwork, they tell us, brings them together to work on several deals. An example: When one of Steven's agents listed an apartment building in the northern ?burbs, he presented the property to all three offices. It was shown 27 times and received a multitude of offers. (Negotiations are ongoing.) ?If you can't work on a team, you just don't work here,? John says. Steven knows the value of that from experience: he worked in Detroit for several years, ?where we knew what the recession was years before the rest of the country.?
