 Sky Moves to the 'Burbs
Adam Fox
Site selection can be tricky—doubly so for sports franchises. We asked WNBA Chicago Sky prez Adam Fox why Sky HQ recently relocated from River North, where it's been since the team was organized, to two floors at 5500 N Howard in Skokie. It helps, of course, that the Alter Group owns that building, as well as the team. But there was more to it. Adam tells us that the new location is not only closer to where the team plays—Allstate Arena—but also where it practices, in Deerfield. "It brought all the elements of the business together," he says. "There's cachet to being in River North, but in fact we're more productive in Skokie. The number of distractions just outside the door in River North sometimes made it hard to focus."
Sylvia Fowles, Sky Guy
We also asked him about Sky Guy, the franchise mascot, pictured here with Sylvia Fowles. Turns out Sky Guy wanted to make the move, too, even though he commutes by jet pack.
