The merger of JLL  and Staubach last year left UGL Equis  as one of a handful of exclusive tenant rep firms in the city. CEO David Montross says he loves the conflict-free platform because it allows brokers to get their clients the best deals without having to worry about how landlords and investors might react. This has helped UGL maintain some powerhouse clients like Sodexho  and Qwest. It also just finished a major leasing project for the US Census Bureau for spaces for 2010 census workers. Giant calculators sold separately.

Michael Silver started the company (then called Equis) in 1984, and it was purchased by United Group Limited, an Australian company, in '07. It employs 160 in its Clark Street office and has offices across the country as well as in IndiaHungary and Latin America. David started his career as a computer systems guy with Zenith in the late-1970s but soon went to business school when he realized that ?systems guys would only ever solve systems problems; business guys should handle business problems.? Before settling at UGL Equis, he had stints with LaSalle Partners and some tech start-ups.
