MORGAN/HARBOUR BUILDING UP, INTO CITY
George Olmos, Ben Warriner, Dan Hession
Suburban contractor Morgan/Harbour is getting ready to take on some new challenges so we stopped by the office to chat with George OlmosBen Warriner, and Dan Hession about the state of the construction industry. (They were practicing standing in a wedding party.) While Morgan/Harbour sustained itself during the recession by doing office interior build-outs and public projects, they're now seeing an uptick in industrial buildings, especially for food-related businesses. Small medical buildings, like orthopedic and MRI centers, are also starting to take off. But competition is still high—they're seeing more  contractors per bid than they ever did before the recession.

Archdiocese social hall
The 20-person Woodridge-based company is renovating an existing 240k SF industrial building and a 14k SF addition for NTAPrecision Axle Corp in Carol Stream, which includes heavy process work and significant power requirements. On the other end of the spectrum, it's creating a 10k SF social hall for the Archdiocese of Cook County in Wheeling (pictured). Morgan/Harbour's also working on its first bids in the City of Chicago proper. Their decision to start with work outside the city is actually where the name Second City comes from.
