Instituto Breaks Ground

Chicago
Instituto Breaks Ground
Instituto del Progresso Latino
A three-story, 101k SF high school, built to LEED Silver, broke ground in the Pilsen neighborhood. McShane Construction started work on the Instituto Health Science Career Academy charter school at 2520 S. Western Ave. The owner is Instituto del Progreso Latino. McShane will partially demolish an existing 77k SF former warehouse on the site and add 24k SF. The school's interior will include nine science labs, individual classrooms, and cafeteria. We were surprised to learn there will be a library, but we suppose students do need a place to store their iPads when in gym class. The Resurrection Project is serving as the owner's representative and Ghafari Associates is the architect. The school will be completed in August.
