Below-Freezing Ball Game
Softball Winter Classic
The Downtown Real Estate Softball League proved Chicago has the biggest softballs of all the Bisnow markets (they play 16”) by going out to play in the annual Winter Classic, held Friday. The team from Newmark Knight Frank and Friends won the round robin tournament, which also had participants from UGL Services, CBRE,JLL, J.F. McKinney, and Golub. The 30-degree windchill didn't hold back any players; in fact, it was balmy compared to last year's 15-degree day.

What's a sport without its legends? After the game, the players retire to Gamekeepers, where Commissioner Richie Klein (second from right, of Newmark Knight Frank) inducted himself and four colleagues in to the DRESL Hall of Fame's inaugural class. Richard Abraham & Co's Rick “The Condor” Abraham is still playing and got his nickname for being the player with the longest wingspan. CBRE'sGary “The Bebes” Beban is the only inductee who is also aHeisman Trophy winner (and we're guessing he's not too happy about Justin Bieber stealing his nickname). And G3 Construction'sBill Ziemek was part of the original league almost 33 years ago.
CBRE's Mark Floersch, Newmark Knight Frank's John Gaines, CBRE's Mitch Adams and OMWorkspace's Mike Bachenberg
Hoping to one day be good enough to get into the Hall of Fame, CBRE's Mark Floersch, Newmark Knight Frank's John Gaines, CBRE's Mitch Adams, and OMWorkspace's Mike Bachenberggrabbed some cold ones. John was excited about his win and also the recent sale of a church on the South Side to a charter school.
