Altering the Face of Mount Prospect

Altering the Face of Mount Prospect
The Bill Alter Way could?ve been the title of a best-selling motivational book on real estate. Maybe Bill was too modest. Instead, just over a year since the real estate development legend passed on, it's the new name for LaSalle Street in Mount Prospect, renamed in his honor.

The Alter Group's Mort BorkanDon DaytonCarole Weinberg,Harvey Alter, and Steve Park, along with Mount Prospect Mayor Irvana Wilkes. The Alter Group owns about 15 acres near the intersection of LaSalle and Elmhurst, which Bill Alter helped the city annex it in the 1970s. He owned it, and the city needed to put in a water main. As is the tradition at Alter, he helped the city first, then worried about how it would affect his land.

Don and Harvey also showed us the new 162k-SF warehouse they've developed on the land. The space and its twin across the street are two of the last vacant new industrial properties in the O'Hare corridor and were finished last fall. If they don't lease soon, it looks like they?d make great skating rinks.
