Fate Unclear For Massive Distribution Center Planned In Kannapolis

Placeholder

TPA Group of Atlanta is planning Kannapolis Logistics Park, a 1.2 MF distribution center, near the intersection of Kannapolis Parkway and Davidson Highway. The next step will be on Dec. 12, when the Kannapolis City Council holds a hearing on the rezoning request for the 117-acre site. The developers haven't said who the tenant would be yet.

About 80% of the 117-acre site allows a distribution center, but TPA says it needs the remaining portion to be rezoned. There is opposition to the move: the Kannapolis Planning and Zoning Commission voted to deny the rezoning, which means the full city council has to take up the matter.

There are concerns that the development will affect the health of Don T. Howell reservoir, which Kannapolis uses for its drinking water, as well as running off into nearby Coddle Creek, the Charlotte Business Journal reports. Kannapolis counters that the development will meet state-mandated rules for stormwater retention. [CBJ]
