MEDIA FEAST ON DNC PRE-GAME
DNC organizers announce President Barack Obama will make his acceptance speed at Bank of America Stadium
Dozens of media reps (local, national, and galactic) descended on the Panthers playing field this week to hear that President Obama will make Bank of America Stadium his acceptance speech venue on Sept. 6. (Recall Invesco Field in Denver, ?08.) The convention itself will be hosted at Time Warner Cable Arena. But there were surprises: The DNC plans to open festivities at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord on Labor Day, Sept. 3, in hopes of bringing regional supporters from more far-flung parts of NC, Virginia, and other nearby states. (Will we see Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid floor it on the racetrack against Tony Stewart?) DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz addressed the press throng, saying the decision to hold the DNC kickoff at Charlotte Motor Speedway, will help ?keep North Carolina blue.?

The DNC Committee?s CEO Steve Kerrigan said the family-friendly Labor Day activities at Concord?s speedway will set the tone for a convention being designed as ?the most open and accessible in history.? Steve, at the podium, is with Concord Mayor Scott Padgett, Debbie, Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx, and campaign volunteer Leah Hill. Scott said playing host to opening-day ceremonies on his home turf ?is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,? and that all Southern graciousness will be extended to the more than 150,000 expected to attend. ?We will make people feel at home while they're here,? he said. (Get the sweet tea ready, we're gonna need a lot of it.)
