CHAMBER LUNCH GOES SPORTY

The news lately from Charlotte pro sports teams has been more about travails than trophies, but they assure us they're all still in the game. Representatives of four local teams fielded questions at a recent luncheon hosted by the Charlotte Chamber's uptown Metro Chapter. The Carolina Panthers? Danny Morrison, Charlotte Checkers? Tonya Black, Charlotte Knights? Dan Rajkowski, and Bobcats? Fred Whitfield were all optimistic about their individual team?s future in the Queen City. One of the first questions targeted the ongoing NFL lockout. Danny says it's still a matter for the courts, but the Panthers are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to make their #1 draft pick tonight (courtesy of a 2-14 record in 2010). He says new head coach Ron Rivera promises to spark new energy. ?It's been a tough year,? Danny says. ?But there are five people our scouts have dialed in on, and we're very excited about it.? (No sightings of Auburn?s Cam Newton at the buffet table.)
