Facebook Searching For Bigger Boston-Area Offices

Facebook could join the list of tech tenants venturing outside of Kendall Square for bigger space, as the social media giant is said to be actively looking for a significantly larger office in Greater Boston.

The company could take up to 120K SF either in Cambridge or Boston, the Boston Business Journal reports. One source said Facebook was looking for an 80K SF space with the option to expand by 40K SF. Another said it was looking at spaces up to 100K SF.

Facebook arrived in Kendall Square in 2013 with just three employees. It has since significantly expanded into an 18K SF space, where a company official said in 2016 it looked to employ 150 employees. Facebook’s potentially much larger facility would be more in line with Amazon’s new 150K SF office in Fort Point, where the company confirmed last week it was expanding from its original regional office in Kendall Square.
