STATE U NEW DORMS
We snapped Massachusetts State Building Authority ED Edward Adelman (left) recently explaining that agency has $100M in new construction underway, a ?full program? although not the busiest they've ever been. That's 400 beds at Framingham State and 500 at the Mass College of Art and Design— Framingham is due for completion in the fall and Mass College of Art is scheduled for the spring. More than ever, these new buildings attempt to define outdoor spaces for students to gather. Inside, student accommodations are arranged as suites with more natural light, privacy, and comfortable furnishings. Every campus is wired for Internet and cable TV. Ed stresses that in an era of tight state budgets, the MSCBA receives no funding from the Commonwealth. It raises funds through its own bonds that are supported by student fees and rent payments.
