PLAY BALL
Today the O?s face off against the Tampa Bay Rays (though yelling barbs about Jeter are still acceptable) in new digs designed by DC?s David M. Schwarz Architects.
Firm principal David Schwarz (flanked by Jon Zubiller, Jeff Loman, and Orioles fanatic Mike Swartz)
Sarasota?s Ed Smith Stadium (originally built for the White Sox in 1989) doubled in size to 163k SF as part of a $31.2M renovation that wraps the old stadium with a two-level concourse, financed by$18.7M in county bond proceeds and a $7.5M grant from Sarasota?s Department of Economic Development. Firm principal David Schwarz (flanked by Jon Zubiller, Jeffrey Loman, and Orioles fanatic Michael Swartz) tells us the 85k SF addition will give the now 9,000 seats much-needed shade, in addition to tripling the number of concessions, and adding three field-level rows and a renovated press box (we hope our invite is in the mail). He also says the team replaced every seat with originals from Camden Yards so your rear feels like it never left Charm City.

The project also has training facilities for both the Orioles and their minor league affiliates. David says the minor league complex is complete; construction starts on the Orioles? training facility thisJune so it's ready for next season. Anybody else eager to get this season over with so we can get excited for pitchers and catchers to report in 2012?
