Knorr Brake, Westminster Technology Park, Westminster, MD, Carroll County, development, construction, headquarters
Train brake manufacturer Knorr Brake signed an LOI with Carroll County and Westminster City on Tuesday to move and expand its HQ to a new $15M, 200k SF building at the Westminster Technology Park. Knorr finance director Dave Moore tells us the company's moving because it's got more business than its current 90k SF location off Rte. 140 can handle (clients include DC's Metro system and Amtrak). Carroll County economic development director Larry Twele tells us the county bought the 63-acre Westminster Technology Park several years ago when it was raw land and developed it into shovel-ready plots to attract build-to-suit tenants. Now there are only 25 acres left. (General Dynamics built a 40k SF building there in 2009.) Construction starts in 16 weeks, with delivery in a year.
