Friday community developer Jubilee Baltimore received a $213k HUD grant to plan a neighborhood revitalization project for central west Baltimore centered on Pedestal Gardens, a 203-unit HUD assisted housing development built in 1968. (Holding the check: HUD?s Carol Galante, Mayor Rawlings-Blake, and HUD?s Sandra Henriquez. Behind them: Mount Royal Improvement Association prez Polly Duke, Senator Ben Cardin, Jubilee prez Charlie Duff, HUD?s Jane Vincent, Madison Park Community Association's Pamela Johnson, Druid Heights Community Development's Kelly Little, Baltimore City Housing Authority director Paul Graziano, and Foresight Affordable Housing?s John Hoeffer.) Baltimore City is also donating $115k tosupplement the grant. Charlie tells us he'll use the money to plan for better housing options, improve educational access, reduce crime, and increase neighborhood retail. Jubilee will apply for another grant to put the plan in motion once it's complete in a year or two.
