Video Store With Roots In The 1980s Moves To New Digs

We never thought we'd see this type of deal again: Vulcan Video, a family-owned independent video store doing its part to keep Austin weird, leased 4,400 SF in Southwood Shopping Center.

Vulcan Video has thrived in Austin since 1988, back when VHS tapes were an actual thing. It's become an icon: Pictured are Jimmy Kimmel and Matthew McConaughey there.

The landlord of Vulcan Video’s previous location on South Congress has planned an $8M mixed-use project that would include retail, office and residential space, leaving no room for the sale of Back to the Future and Top Gun.

The new store is at 1701 West Ben White Blvd at Russell Drive. Other tenants at Southwood Shopping Center include Gold’s Gym and Taco Bell.

The Weitzman Group’s Gabriel Sanchez and Jeff Lewis handled negotiations as exclusive project leasing agents for Southwood. Access Realty’s Ben Siewert repped the video store.
