The 32K SF expansion will modernize the manufacturing facility, which currently has a footprint of 130K SF on 14 acres.

Durcon, a Wilsonart brand, is one of Taylor’s oldest and largest employers, having had a presence in the city for more than 40 years.

Durcon manufactures chemical-resistant countertops and sinks. Solomon said the expansion will add “cutting-edge fabrication machinery” and software that will enhance production capacity.

In a Dec. 9 press release, Durcon said the expansion is the largest capital investment in its history. The company didn’t reveal the cost of the expansion, but the ABJ reported that filings with the state marked the expansion’s cost at $4.2M.

“This expansion is a major investment in the future of Taylor and surrounding area, reaffirming the company’s commitment to a community we have been a proud employer in for the past four decades,” Matthew Solomon, marketing manager for Durcon, told Bisnow.

The city of Taylor, which has a population of 17,000, has burnished its reputation as a key manufacturing hub with a new wave of development. The city is home to Samsung Electronics’ $17B semiconductor manufacturing plant, a project first announced in 2021.

In addition, Tesla has a 183K SF facility at Taylor Logistics Park, and Compal Electronics has 600K SF of manufacturing space spread across two industrial parks in Taylor and neighboring Georgetown.

In November, Dallas-based developer KDC sought approval to construct a large data center campus in the city, but some local citizens have pushed back against data center development in Taylor, MySA reported.

Earlier this year, nearby CommercialCafe dubbed Austin the top innovation hub in the South, and Taylor’s growth is in part a result of Austin’s draw.

Pauly Presley Realty real estate agent Adam Theall told Bisnow that many companies are drawn to Texas because of its absence of a state income tax and seek locales near Texas' metro areas.

“As you get further away from the city center, you’ll find a lot of investors are taking advantage of more affordable pricing, which allows them to add to Austin’s growth,” Theall said.
