WANNA BE A STAR?
Lee Thomas Georgia Film music digital entertainment state maggianos buckhead realscout state incentives
Lights! Camera! And the action could be on your property. We caught a picture of Lee Thomas, the interim director for the Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office. Lee told an audience of some 100 PR pros at Maggiano's in Buckhead last week during the Public Relations Society of America's "Hollywood South" seminar that property owners can submit their buildings for consideration in use by studios to film movies and TV shows (or perhaps a Young Jeezy video). The state collects potential properties via this website. Georgia has become a  rising star in the film industry ever since the state pumped incentives toward studios earlier this decade (30% sales tax incentive that is transferrable). In fact, Lee says more than $2B  has been infused in the state's economy in the past 10 months from recent movie productions, including a Footloose remake in the works and The Walking Dead TV series filmed around Cobb County.

We snapped Craig Miller Productions' CEO Craig Miller (also chairman of the Georgia Production Partnerships), who says that the state's  film industry died after its birth in the 1970s when Deliverance (not the best portrayal of the state) was filmed here. Those in the film industry left Georgia for other markets. But with the incentives in place and production rising, ?people are moving back in droves,? he says. ?This creates a significant permanent job base. We recreated a great industry here.?
