Delta is the biggest airline in the country and in the world—but it will be relinquishing its title if a $3B merger announced today between United and Continental goes through. Combined, United and Continental have 21% of domestic capacity, in terms of available seat miles. Delta has a market share of 20%. Our hometown carrier is no stranger to mergers, having itself vaulted to the top of the industry in 2008 when it bought Northwest. |
