Wooden Leadership In Coaching Awards Dinner!

Thursday, the 2017 Nell and John Wooden Leadership in Coaching Awards Dinner took place at the Watergate Hotel. Here, Erik Moses, Brian Boland, Steve Turner, Mike Wise, Walt Williams, Danny Ferry, Jonathan Scribner, and in the front row, Roy Williams, Bob Geoghan and Gary Williams. The event featured a reception, dinner and awards ceremony where North Carolina coach Roy Williams, the 2017 NCAA men’s basketball champion, was presented with the Nell and John Wooden Leadership in Coaching Award during the dinner.

The dinner was hosted by Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, and Bob Geoghan, founder of the McDonald’s All American Games and the Capital Classic. The dinner welcomed inductees Walt Williams and Danny Ferry into the Washington Metropolitan Basketball Hall of Fame. During the event, the Pepsi Outstanding Leadership Awards were presented to Brian Boland, former University of Virginia men’s tennis head coach for winning his fourth national championship this past season, and to Turner and Scribner to recognize their outstanding accomplishments in winning the 2017 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and DC State Athletics Association Championships.
