In 2016, the event raised $1.5M to support research, education, outreach and advocacy. This year’s gala theme, “Icon of Innovation,” honored Italy and Ambassador Armando Varricchio, snapped above with his wife, Micaela Varricchio. The gala décor was personally designed by celebrity party planner David Tutera, who is a member of the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s board.

The gala presented Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), the majority leader of the House of Representatives, as its 2017 Cancer Champion. The Prevent Cancer Foundation is one of the nation’s leading voluntary health organizations and the only U.S. nonprofit focused solely on cancer prevention and early detection. Founded in 1985, it has catapulted cancer prevention to prominence and fulfills its mission through research, education, outreach and advocacy across the country. Here are McCarthy, Leah Dunn and her husband, Rep. Neal Dunn (R-Fla.).
