DC’s Dancing Stars Gala!

Over the weekend, we went to two great galas, raising funds for lung cancer research and Georgetown historic preservation, but we'll start with DC’s Dancing Stars Gala at the Hyatt Regency in Tysons.

We snapped the judges, actor Lamont Easter from House of Cards, Chelsie Hightower from ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, and Shane Lewis from Naked and Afraid.

WUSA9 reporter Larry Miller and his partner Katherine Hayes won the judges' choice trophy. Over 350 dance enthusiasts, philanthropists and community leaders enjoyed a cocktail reception, a beef tenderloin dinner and a live auction.

The judges announced Marymount University president Dr. Matt Shank and his partner Katya Naiman as the winning pair, and gave them the Mirror Ball Trophy and $10k to donate to the charity of their choice (scholarships for Marymount University students). They're with E.G. Reinsch Cos CEO Lola Reinsch.

Gala co-chairs and Fred Astaire Dance Studio-Fairfax co-owner Maria Coakley David with entrepreneur Patrick Coakley and psychiatrist Dr. Caroline Coakley raised $185k for five local charities: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, T.A.P.S., Marymount University, Our Military Kids, and The Code of Support Foundation.

Ellen Coakley bid $2,100 in a live auction to win a date with ABC’s The Bachelor Andy Baldwin, with the proceeds going to charity.
