WCL Goes High-Tech to Highlight Legal Needs

The Washington Council of Lawyers hosted a happy hour at Teaism in Penn Quarter to celebrate the launch of its new blog, East of the River Profiles: Meeting the Community's Legal Needs. Focusing on communities east of the Anacostia, the blog highlights both pro bono efforts by lawyers and law students in Wards 7 and 8, and the need for legal assistance that remains. WCL board member and Covington pro bono counsel Kelly Voss says the blog looks to build on the DC legal community's deep commitment to pro bono work.

East of the River Profiles editor and Department of Veterans Affairs lawyer Caroline Fleming shows the blog to husband Joe. She says that its goal is to "make the experiences of the people living in these neighborhoods more accessible." Since most law firm's offices are in NW DC, WCL hopes to "inspire more attorneys to cross the river to help individuals with legal difficulties affecting their homes, their jobs, their benefits, or their families."
