No More Mr. Nice Court

While courts around the country have been hiring clerks with the Federal Law Clerk Hiring Plan (whether it was really adhered to is debatable--participation is voluntary), the DC Circuit says "the plan is no longer working." Starting with the 2014-2015 term, it will no longer hire on the plan. "A significant and increasing number of circuit judges around the country have hired in advance of the plans interview and offer dates," which limits the options of courts that do adhere to the timetable. The court says that it's willing to work with other judges to develop a successor to the plan. Until then, it's each clerk and judge for himself.
