A One-Year Check Up on DC’s Hottest Bar

One year in, Dram & Grain is making some changes. The intimate bar in the bowels of Jack Rose Dining Saloon is now open Tuesday through Saturday nights, a marked change from the initial one night a week test drive. Fridays and Saturdays are still reservations only, but during the week they’re operating first come, first served. They’ve also added key staff members like Lukas Smith (formerly of Daikaya), and revamped the menu. We tried a new beverage dubbed the MacKinnon Sour with Talisker 10 Single Malt Scotch, earl grey syrup, lemon, Drambuie and egg white. Dram & Grain founder Trevor Frye tells us they steep whole eggs in Drambuie to absorb the flavor before cracking them open to produce a whiskey sour's signature foam.
