The Week of Deals

Champagne corks popped all over DC, as several tech companies announced funding deals, acquisitions and a major political partnership.

Two DC tech firms came together this week: Mobomo, strong in Rails web development and mobile applications, especially for government agencies, acquired Intridea, a product development and user experience firm. What’s unusual is both companies were launched by Barg Upender, who’s been serving as Mobomo’s chairman since handing off the CEO reins to Brian Lacey this year. (Barg launched Intridea with David Naffis in ‘07.) Together the company will be about 100 employees, with Mobomo at its new HQ at 19th and M and Intridea’s team working remotely all over the country.

Mobomo’s claim to fame is development of the new NASA.gov launched earlier this year, as well as several Navy mobile applications. Intridea says anyone who’s “read business news, received a paycheck, opened an email, had a baby or attended a wedding” has encountered Intridea’s work. Clients include Mitsubishi, ADP and TheKnot.com. Mobomo says it will keep the Intridea brand name, and Intridea CEO Marc Garrett will continue running that piece of the business.
