The 7.3-acre site of the BoatUS HQ in Alexandria will soon become a self-storage facility.

Public Storage bought the 92K SF flex-industrial building at 880 South Pickett St. for $13.7M. Transwestern's Caulley Deringer, Steve Cloud and Wilson West represented the seller, an affiliate of BoatUS Chairman Richard Schwartz.

BoatUS, an association representing the interests of recreational boat owners, plans to move to a new 63K SF facility in Springfield in mid-2018.

The Alexandria property is part of the Eisenhower West Small Area Plan, a vision for redeveloping the corridor that the city adopted in 2015.

“The plan provides guidelines for development, with an urban design framework intended to connect parcels into a higher-density, green, sustainable environment for a work/live/play atmosphere," Deringer said in a release. "With the increased density, the buyer will provide much needed self-storage space to a constrained market.”
