The Picklr location at 1650 N. Main St. in Logan, Utah, occupies a former Bed Bath & Beyond.

A Utah-based pickleball operator has thousands of new courts on the boards as it eyes an international expansion.

The Picklr, which operates 11 corporate-owned locations, announced that as of the end of the first quarter, it had sold 276 franchises totaling 2,760 courts, all of which it plans to develop in-house.

The company also said it plans to open 38 clubs over the next few years and has another 52 club leases in final negotiations.

"We are so pleased with our Q1 results, and as we push into Q2, we look forward to opening new clubs around the country," Jonathan Fornaci, the company's president and chief operating officer, said in a news release.

The company also announced it expects to announce final franchise agreements for Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the European Union this quarter.

Founded in 2021, The Picklr has been on a massive growth trajectory over the past six months. It unveiled its first slate of franchises in September, announcing 80 locations coming to 11 states. In October, it announced another 30 locations set to open across four states and Washington, D.C.

Several similar companies, including Ace Pickleball Club and Chicken N Pickle, have looked to take advantage of what has been named the fastest-growing sport five years in a row. Many have used vacant big-box stores to satisfy their large-format needs.
