Target is opening a smaller, urban-designed store in Bethesda, its third in the DC region.

The 35,500 SF "flexible format" store will open in March 2017 in Douglas Development's Shops of Wisconsin, at 6831 Wisconsin Ave. The smaller format includes fresh groceries, clothing, sporting goods, technology accessories and a pharmacy. Target has opened 19 of these locations already, and has 26 more opening by the end of 2017.

The company opened one in the base of a new student housing building in College Park (above) last summer. It also opened one in Rosslyn in the fall.

“Target is focusing on expanding into more urban and densely populated city centers,” Target senior vice president Mark Schindele said. “The Bethesda store will be Target’s third flexible-format store to open in the greater Washington, DC, area, so we’re thrilled to add another location to make quick-trip shopping even more convenient for Maryland guests.”
