Residents at Parking-Light H Street Project to Get SmarTrip Cards

Douglas Development plans to make up for the lack of parking at its 28-unit mixed-use development at 501 H St NE in a big way. Recently filed updates include a proposal for $100 SmarTrip cards, a one-year Bikeshare membership, and a carshare membership. Additionally, the lobby will have a TransitScreen, giving residents real-time information on bus and transit lines. And an on-site employee will give residents info on transit opportunities and schedules, Capital Bikeshare stations nearby, and bicycle parking in the building, UrbanTurf reports. This will be in exchange for only four compact parking spaces and one handicap space on-site. One of the spaces will be reserved for a carshare vehicle, and the others will be available to residents only. Shoppers at the development's 17,500 SF of retail will have to find their own parking. The project, which has the support of ANC 6C, is set to go before the zoning commission soon. [UT]
