Douglas Development Bringing Harris Teeter to DC's Boundary

Placeholder

Douglas Development has filed plans with the District for a mixed-use project in Shepherd Park, on the outskirts of DC, that would be anchored by a Harris Teeter.

The two-acre site is bounded by Alaska Avenue, Eastern Avenue, Georgia Avenue and Kalmia Road NW. Douglas acquired the property, which has existing two-story buildings and surface parking lots, in October 1997, the Washington Business Journal reports. Plans for the mixed-use project call for 199 residential units and 56k SF of retail, anchored by a new Harris Teeter supermarket. Douglas has earned the support of the local advisory neighborhood commission and has agreed to contribute $25k to Shepherd Elementary School. Hickok Cole has been tasked with design for the project.

Douglas Development has been one of the most active developers in the District since 2010. Not too far away, Douglas has a pair of three-story residential buildings with 99 units under construction in Takoma[WBJ]
