ParkDC Looks to Modernize DC Parking

ParkDC is getting ready to make the most of some of downtown's most popular blocks with a new performance parking program. With this program, DDOT will measure when parking spaces are occupied and when they're empty to determine a market rate. This eliminates an oversupply of parking spots while making sure there are enough empty spaces for people who need them, Streetsblog reports. A number of methods will be used to gather occupancy data, including the traditional "hockey puck," data from meters, historical data, cameras, and law-enforcement data. The overall impact of the plan will be assessed by the end of 2016. [SB]
