Housing starts in the Vancouver CMA reached 20,633 units in 2015, a 1,651-unit increase over 2014 and the highest level since 1993, according to Richard Sam, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp’s principal market analyst for Vancouver. He attributes the jump in starts to strong demand for both rental housing and homeownership. In the Abbotsford-Mission CMA, housing starts in December were trending at 1,031 units, up from 977 units in November.
