How Eglinton Square and Cloverdale Mall Erased Their Coffee Footprints

Placeholder

Eglinton Square and Cloverdale Mall have collected 116,000 pounds of coffee grounds from their food-service retailers since 2013, erasing their “coffee footprint” through the innovative Grounds to Gardens program. The Bentall Kennedy-managed properties have partnered with Reground Organics, which uses 100% of the spent but nitrogen-rich coffee to create sustainable potting soil, versus sending it to landfills. Recycling Council of Ontario's Jo-Anne St. Godard notes solutions like these are helping overcome waste diversion challenges that are “prevalent in Ontario’s commercial sector.”
