King Township Wins Dubious Honour: King of Red Tape

Placeholder

King Township is the most heavily regulated place in the Greater Golden Horseshoe, according to a new Fraser Institute ranking of 23 municipalities, with the longest construction approval time (20.2 months, versus a 17.5 month region average) and the highest regulatory costs and fees. Oakville ranked as the second most regulated municipality, followed by Oshawa, Aurora, Halton Hills and Caledon. Toronto placed seventh. Housing affordability is a big issue, Fraser Institute senior director Kenneth Green said, noting the survey shows “red tape at some city halls is deterring development and exacerbating the problem."
