Meet ULI's New Executive Director

The Toronto District Council of ULI has its first full-time, paid chief. (It was formed in 2006 and now has 600 members.) Executive director Richard Joy has only been on the job about a week—you can tell by the clean desk—and tells us this is a watershed moment in the growth of the Toronto region. We have "significant challenges we need to deal with differently," he says, pointing to the need to align future land uses and transit.

Richard likes to talk about land, but he's most happy in water. He's a competitive swimmer who next month competes in the Joe's Team triathlon relay fundraiser for Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. "We came in third place last year, but we're gunning for first place on July 5," says Richard (right), with squad mates Peter Atto and Clayton Atto
