El Mocambo Deal Done?

Toronto Other

It looks like a deal for the sale of the iconic El Mocambo music club is imminent, we've learned. (We're already writing a song about it for our real estate-centric band, Leasing a Canto.)

Industry sources tell us a conditional deal is done and it will likely continue on as the El Mocambo. We'll see if the music plays on—hosting performers like Stevie Ray Vaughan, above—but if the club is turned into something else, chock up another one of the older-generation commercial real estate icons that are going the way of the dinosaur and recording on tape (joining places like Sam The Record Man, Honest Ed’s, and The World’s Biggest Bookstore).

The El Mocambo is perhaps most famous for a show the Rolling Stones did there in the 1970s, but it’s also played host to another music pioneers like Elvis Costello, Blondie, The Ramones, U2, and our very own Tragically Hip.
