Tenant Demands Drive REX Award Finalists
The finalists for the 12thAnnual Real Estate Excellence Awards (REX Awards) were announced last weekand if there was one takeaway or trend for chair Brenda Burjaw, it came down to tenant demands. (In her day job, Brenda is GE Capital Real Estates debt asset manager.)
Project finalists celebrate the best of the best in these categories: Industrial Lease of the Year, Office Lease, Industrial Development, Office Development, Investment Deal, and Green Award. Whether they are lease deals, or investment or development deals, the tenant is definitely driving the bus, she says. In particular was demand for sustainability among the projects of the finalists. Another takeaway: the continued, dramatic development in hotels, office, retail, and mixed-use in the south core area of Toronto. No longer is it an isolated, wind-swept haven for condo towers.
