Should Metrolinx and the TTC consider spinning off REITs to leverage the worth of huge public land holdings? "It will require brave politicians, but we must engage in such creative thinking and borrow or adapt ideas that work elsewhere," says DTZ national group chairman Chris Ridabock. Major investments are needed to ensure the GTA is sustainable environmentally and economically for future generations, but Chris sees the public more likely to pony up if they're confident public agencies are maximizing returns on assets.
