Porter's plans to expand the Billy Bishop airport on Toronto Island crossed the first hurdle Tuesday, when city council voted to study expanding runways on both sides of the island to accommodate jet aircraft. Porter is looking to purchase jets so it can be a national carrier and fly to locations like Vancouver and Los Angeles. (They crave the bright lights of Hollywood and that place where Hollywood films in Canada.) A preliminary report for the city's executive committee is expected in July, while the full report should be ready for the fall. Porter president Robert Deluce says his company is willing to cover a chunk of the costs of the report if asked--around $250k for the first phase of study.
