Hackathon Tackles Greening Buildings

Toronto

ALERT (Affordable and Low-income Environmental Renewal in Toronto) hosted a hackathon last weekend, where teams developed solutions to encourage energy efficiency in the city's residential towers. Judges included O'Shanter Development principal Adam Krehm (in blue) and Brookfield Condominium Services manager Rob Detta Colli. The winning team, PowerOf5, created an app, Energy Alert, that immediately notifies building owners of their energy usage and opportunities to conserve. Second went to Powerdown, an energy data visualization tool that uses weather forecasts to predict future consumption. (We assume that means on rainy days we cry more and consume more tissues.)
