Downtown Casino: Majority Says...

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp won't like to hear this, but judging by our survey on Tuesday, most readers seem to think that a Toronto downtown casino is dust in the wind.

Over 60% don't think it will fly, as the proposal hits the city council floor on May 21 for a vote. (Those are actually interesting odds if anyone wants to place a bet on it.) Said one reader: The city needs to have adequate transit plans before increasing traffic for a destination location. Says another: "Casino business models are based on diminishing returns and have three-to-five year life cycles before the next shiny one opens up... Toronto needs vibrant, sustainable business models." But some readers were more positive: Its dead the way it is being presented by the pro-lobbyists. But not dead in a scaled-down version.
