  Michael Van Every

  Michael Van Every is the President and Managing Partner of Republic Urban Properties, the Bay Area flagship of the Republic Family of Companies. Mr. Van Every works with Federal, State, and Local governments on the creation and development of ‘smart growth’ projects, such as master-planned communities near transportation hubs; urban mixed-use projects near major employment centers; and innovative, public-private partnerships. The Republic Family of Companies is known for developing institutional-quality real estate throughout the United States, from land development, to historic adaptive reuse, to shopping malls. In his 25 years of working experience representing major institutional and private real estate developers in the greater Bay Area, Van Every has earned the reputation as a man with the leadership, the knowledge, the experience, and tenacity to see complicated projects through from land acquisition to completion. Under Van Every’s leadership, RUP has gained national attention for its Transit Oriented Development (TOD) projects at key transit stations working as the premier public-private partner with many transit authorities across California. Since 2006, as the managing partner of RUP, Van Every has been involved with the planning, financing, construction, and delivery of 1,238 multifamily units and 145,000 square feet of mixed-use commercial space. In addition to the multifamily pipeline, RUP has approximately 380 hotels rooms, 151,000 square feet of office, and 120,000 square feet of retail in various stages of development. The estimated market value among projects is projected at $1.5 billion in value. A third-generation San Jose native, Van Every holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from California State University at Fresno. Van Every is an active member of San Jose Rotary Club as well as the Silicon Valley Leadership Group. He also serves as a Board Member on Santa Clara County Catholic Charities. Michael is married and lives with his wife Jennifer and Jacob in the Willow Glen Neighborhood of San Jose.

  Before joining the A’s, Tan was Senior Vice President and U.S. Head of Development at Bentall Kennedy, one of North America’s largest real estate investment advisors. During her tenure, the company invested in the development of more than $3 billion of mixed-use commercial, multi-family, and logistics projects throughout the U.S. Tan has additional experience as Executive Vice President and Director of Northern California Operations at Related California, where she opened the office and built up a $2 billion pipeline of affordable and mixed income, mixed use developments throughout the Bay Area. Her work included successful partnerships with Oakland based non-profit EBALDC, the Oakland Housing Authority and Acts Full Gospel Church on community redevelopment projects in East Oakland. She was also the Executive Vice President at BRIDGE Housing Corporation, where she led teams focused on all aspects of the development and financing of mixed income and affordable housing communities, as well as large scale redevelopment efforts throughout California, including Chestnut Linden, Mandela Gateway and Central Station in West Oakland, MacArthur BART, and St. Josephs in East Oakland. During her tenure at BRIDGE, she oversaw the development of $3.5 billion of affordable and mixed income housing, pedestrian-oriented commercial space, and community facilities. Throughout her work and volunteer career, Tan has worked with nonprofits and local organizations to effect positive change focused on raising the quality of life and increasing opportunity in lower income communities. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the S.H. Cowell Foundation; SPUR; and Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco. She is a former longtime volunteer at EBALDC, serving on its Board of Directors and its Real Estate Committee. She is also a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council for UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design, and the Stanford Real Estate Council. Tan and her husband are Resident Fellows at Stanford University, where they work to create an enriched residential experience for 270 undergraduate students. Tan holds a BA in Architecture from University of California, Berkeley and a MBA from Stanford University. She is a Registered Architect in California.

  Josh Burroughs is a real estate development leader, and strategist in Silicon Valley. He supervises and directs all aspects of land acquisitions, entitlements, forward planning, and land development including project underwriting, design, construction, relationship management, partnership / joint venture formations, debt and equity placement, management of consultants, and project / asset disposition. In addition to development roles, Josh oversees marketing for SWENSON and manages the company’s public relations and advertising agency.   Andrew Baker oversees Anton DevCo’s Bay Area market rate multifamily development platform from inception through asset stabilization. He is responsible for land acquisition, joint ventures, entitlements, development and construction. Prior to joining Anton, Andrew held the position of Vice President of Development at Essex Property Trust, where he delivered over 1,000 units and was part of a team that delivered over $1.2 billion in asset production over nearly a decade.   Mike Kim serves as Senior Managing Director of Mill Creek’s Northern California office, where he leads the development activities in the San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento, and Silicon Valley metro regions. During his 24-year real estate career, he has been involved in the development and construction of multifamily mixed-use communities, and commercial developments with aggregate values in excess of $2.2 billion in the NCAL and PNW markets. Prior to joining Mill Creek, Mr. Kim served as Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer at SIMEON Properties where he led the firm’s multifamily and commercial development activities. He began his real estate career in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he was involved in complex urban developments across various typologies including high-rise, horizontal and vertical mixed-use, master plans, and commercial developments. Prior to his career in real estate development, Mr. Kim served the nation for seven years as a Naval Officer leading maritime missions and expeditions in all major theaters of operation. Mr. Kim holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science Degree from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. He has served on various boards such as the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley CA, NAIOP San Francisco, and several municipal Advisory Councils.

  Miles Garber

  Miles Garber is the Vice President of Research at Polaris Pacific, the largest brokerage firm of new condominiums on the West Coast. At Polaris Pacific, he runs the research consulting division and oversees the Polaris Pacific Report, a monthly market intelligence report that tracks sales prices and absorption rates of new residential condominiums in San Francisco, Seattle, San Diego, Silicon Valley, Oakland/Emeryville and Los Angeles. Prior to joining Polaris Pacific, Miles was a research analyst at The Mark Company, a San Francisco-based brokerage firm, and with Market Profiles, a market research firm based in Southern California. An active member of Urban Land Institute (ULI), he serves the Steering Committee of its Young Leaders Group. He also volunteers with ULI’s Urban Plan, an interactive program that teaches high school students about real estate development.
