  Helmut Jahn

  Helmut Jahn, FAIA, has earned a reputation on the cutting edge of progressive architecture. His buildings have had a “staggering” influence on architecture according to John Zukowsky, Curator of Architecture at the Art Institute of Chicago. JAHN’s buildings have received numerous design awards and have been represented in architectural exhibitions around the world. Born in Germany, Jahn graduated from the Technische Hochschule in Munich. He came to the United States for graduate studies in architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology. After attending IIT, he worked at C. F. Murphy Associates as a Project Architect under Gene Summers, designing the new McCormick Place. In 1976, his first major high-rise building in Chicago, Xerox Centre, received great critical acclaim. Today, as Chief Executive Officer of JAHN, he has been called Chicago’s premiere architect who has dramatically changed the face of Chicago. His national and international reputation has led to commissions across the United States, Europe, Africa and Asia. He is committed to design excellence and the improvement of the urban environment. His projects have been recognized globally for design innovation, vitality and integrity. With numerous publications on his work, the excitement his work has generated in the public eye as well as professional journals and press is clear. The American Institute of Architects has declared, “Helmut Jahn is one of the ten most influential living American architects. Additionally, the United Airlines Terminal One Complex at O’Hare International Airport and the State of Illinois Center have been ranked as two of the best ten works of American architecture completed since 1980” and awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012. Jahn’s professional activities are highlighted by numerous lectures and juries for various universities, professional societies and civic and commercial groups. He is a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects in which his work has received seven American Institute of Architects National Honor Awards, and more than 60 Distinguished Building Awards from the local chapters of the American Institute of Architects. Included with other awards are, an OwensCorning Fiberglass Energy Conservation Award, the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, the Reliance Development Group, Inc. and R. S. Reynolds Memorial for Distinguished Architecture. Jahn’s work has been included in exhibits worldwide since 1980, including the Venice Biennale, Italy, Verona, Italy, Tokyo, Paris, Argentina and the Deutsches Architekturmuseum in Frankfurt, Germany. He has taught at the University of Illinois Chicago Campus, was the Elliot Noyes Professor of Architectural Design at Harvard University and the Davenport Visiting Professor of Architectural Design at Yale University, and Thesis Professor at Illinois Institute of Technology.

  Chris Clemente

  Chris Clemente founded the Comstock organization in 1985 and has guided its growth and diversification since its inception. Mr. Clemente managed the growth of Comstock as a private enterprise until the 2004 initial public offering of Comstock Homebuilding Companies, Inc. (NASDAQ: CHCI), now known as Comstock Holding Companies®, Inc. (“Comstock” or “Company”). Since the IPO, Mr. Clemente has served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Comstock and is the largest individual stockholder of the Company. Mr. Clemente chairs Comstock’s Executive Committee, which charts strategic direction, evaluates acquisition opportunities, and oversees strategic partnerships, including multiple public-private partnerships. Mr. Clemente is also Managing Member of Comstock Partners, LC (“Partners”), a family-owned, private company founded by Mr. Clemente in 1999 to focus on commercial real estate development and investment. Following its IPO, Comstock expanded its for-sale homebuilding operation into multiple key markets in the southeastern United States, while the commercial development operation of Partners remained focused on the Washington, DC market. Following the Great Recession, Comstock scaled back its for-sale homebuilding operation to focus solely on the Washington, DC market. Mr. Clemente managed the two companies as separate firms with distinct management teams and investment objectives until early 2018, when Comstock announced its plan to wind-down its for-sale homebuilding operation and refocus on commercial development, real estate asset management, and real estate related services. To execute this strategic plan, the operating platforms of Comstock and Partners were combined, and changes were made to the management team. To anchor the transition, Partners entered a long-term, cost-plus asset management agreement covering its portfolio of commercial properties, which had grown to include millions of square feet of stabilized buildings and development assets strategically located at key transit stations on Metro’s new Silver Line in the Dulles Corridor of Northern Virginia that have an estimated value at full build out of approximately $3 billion. Key assets included in the portfolio of managed assets, include; Reston Station, a 4.5 million square foot transit-oriented and mixed-use development covering nearly 40 acres surrounding the terminus station of Phase I of the Silver Line in Reston, Virginia, and Loudoun Station, a 2+ million square foot transit-oriented and mixed-use development located adjacent to the terminus station of Phase II of the Silver Line in Ashburn, Virginia. Mr. Clemente attended the University of Wisconsin and George Mason University where he studied Business and Psychology. Mr. Clemente and his wife, Tracy Schar, have been long-time supporters of numerous charitable organizations in the Washington, DC region that support international adoptions, foster care programs, and that provide educational, housing and other assistance to families and children in-need.

  Stan Eckstut, EE&K’s senior principal, has a national reputation as an innovator and leader in large-scale architecture extending back over thirty years to his pioneering work designing the master plan for Battery Park City. Stan’s singular understanding of architecture as a practice that creates and sustains the public realm is evident in all his designs, from large-scale waterfront developments and intermodal transportation hubs to campuses, schools, and even prototypes for bus shelters. In each case, his work has strengthened the urban fabric by creating new centers of social and civic activity; as he points out, “even my smallest buildings are about being part of a larger community.” A pragmatic visionary, Stan’s creative exploration of the possibilities of place is tempered by his keen sense of market and political realities.   Yolanda Cole

  Yolanda is the Senior Principal and owner of Hickok Cole Architects, a large commercial architecture and interiors firm located in Washington, DC. She has over 25 years of base building and interior design experience in a variety of project types from large-scale, mixed-use developments to small commercial interiors, both around the world and in the region. She is widely recognized for her leadership in the region’s business community and for her work on many award-winning projects in the commercial/corporate, government, and institutional markets. Prior to joining Hickok Cole Architects as a partner, Ms. Cole was a partner with Arlington-based LyrixDesign, which merged with Hickok’s firm to become Hickok Cole. LyrixDesign was one of the top 25 woman-owned and interior design firms in the region. She began her career with New York-based Kohn Pederson Fox Associates (KPF), where she was a senior designer of large-scale high-rise office buildings. While with KPF, Ms. Cole served as senior designer for the 1.2-million square-foot Chifley Tower in Sydney, Australia, where she lived for two years; and the award-winning Capital Cities/ABC headquarters in New York.

  Eric is the founding Principal of ZDS and a lead contributor to the firm’s continuing success. He carries over two decades of project management experience in the hospitality industry. Eric’s keen ability to direct his staff of talented architects and designers through the successful completion of all of the firm’s projects produces outstanding results for the assignments in which the firm is engaged. Eric is impassioned with providing stellar design solutions that are lucrative for the entire project team. His hands-on, learned and enthusiastic approach from the onset of a project instills a perpetual forward motion, affording immediate results. Eric has led the design and project management of numerous luxury hotels and mixed use properties through the United States, Middle East, China, and Southeast Asia. Some of his greatest works include luxury hotels for clients and major operators in India, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Riyadh. His veteran work experience in both the domestic and international markets equip him with the ability to foresee a myriad of practical and innovative design and business solutions. A strong business sense paired with his innate design talent makes certain for solid project success. After 15 years as a Principal, Director of Operations, and Lead Project Manager at his previous firm, Eric pivoted his focus to building his firm that threads those international experiences into the more regionalized fabric of the United States. Eric’s daily quest for a successful balance between creative thinking, exceptional design, and efficient execution, reinforces his passion for the design industry and his persistent desire to provide his clients with profitable and successful properties.   Douglas Carter, a founding principal and President of Davis Carter Scott (DCS Design), graduated from the Leeds School of Architecture and Town Planning in England. Then, off to Germany for five years, helping his firm win many major design competitions such as the Olympic Village for the Munich Olympic Games and the Cologne University Medical Center. It was that research which led him to America, and (together with Robert Davis) the founding of our firm. Doug’s ability to analyze and quickly conceptualize a design that responds to the needs, budget and aesthetics of each individual client has led the firm into many diverse project types from hospitals, jails, schools, corporate office, hotels, residential and more. This diversity of experience has allowed the firm to specialize in major mixed-use projects around the country and internationally. His commitment to design excellence, and above all sustainable and ecologically sound architecture, has attained much recognition over the years with local, national, and international design awards. He is the recipient of the Virginia AIA Honor award, guest lecturer at the University of Virginia, serves on several design review boards and the Washington Airports Task Force Board of Directors. His work has been featured in Architectural Record, Building Design, Design and Construction, Urban Design Institute Publications, Newsweek, Time as well as numerous local business publications.   Dr. Tinianov 25-year career has been dedicated to product innovation in building technology and real estate. He currently serves as View’s VP of Industry Strategy where he leads their research and industry engagement initiatives. His work spans current trends in commercial real estate, workplace strategy, and the impact of the built environment on the health and wellness of today’s workforce. Prior to joining View, Brandon was the Chief Technology Officer at Serious Energy and prior to that, a senior researcher at the Johns Manville Corporation. Brandon is the Chair of the Advisory Council of the US Green Building Council and a member of the Board of Directors.   Reardon Sullivan

  Reardon Sullivan, PE, LEED AP, Principal, is the founding owner of WFT Engineering, an award winning firm he founded 23 years ago, specializing in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, construction administration, energy modeling, life cycle cost analysis and cost compliance. Mr. Sullivan’s day-to-day responsibilities include oversight of MEP/FP engineering activities, project management, accounting, marketing, and client relations. His 35-year career in the engineering consulting field has advanced from designing simple HVAC systems to running a small business enterprise, managing large teams of design professionals on complex renovation projects in the private and public sectors. In addition to daily responsibilities of the firm, he continues to provide mechanical system planning, design and commissioning services. Mr. Sullivan received his BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland and he is licensed in the District of Columbia and in two states including Maryland and Virginia. He also does expert witness work and has been qualified as an expert in codes. Mr. Sullivan has been a featured speaker and panelist at various professional symposiums and events including Bisnow's "5th Annual Real Estate Strategies for Associations and Law Firms" and the Federal Markets Property Summit on "Architecture and Design: New Initiatives in Green Building and Sustainability."
