Topgolf is opening a new facility on a 15-acre site near National Harbor at The Peterson Cos.' Potomac Business Park, creating up to 500 jobs in Prince George’s County. The new 64K SF Topgolf will replace the one in Alexandria as the fourth location in the D.C. area.
The Dallas-based, golf-oriented entertainment and event venue’s attractions include driving ranges, miniature golf, food, drinks and live music. Despite declining interest, viewership and sales in the sport, Topgolf is expanding, and the key to its strategy is generating excitement among millennials, who enjoy Topgolf’s social, experiential, lively vibe.
The Prince George's County Planning Board unanimously approved the coming Topgolf for a 20-year lease with extension options.
Kaiser Permanente

The Rockville-based integrated managed care consortium Kaiser Permanente will open a 176K SF administrative and IT facility in Urban Atlantic and Forest City’s New Carrollton transit-oriented development. The healthcare giant represents the first lease at the office building, delivering November 2018. The New Carrolton development will encompass a total of 1.3M SF of residential, 1.1M SF of office, 150K SF of retail and a hotel at completion.
Kaiser’s new space at 4000 Garden City Drive will accommodate up to 850 employees. The New Carrollton Station’s Metro and Amtrak accessibility, coupled with the area’s walkability, make it an attractive location for corporate tenants, as the 2.7M SF mixed-use TOD brings the live-work-play spirit to Prince George’s County.
Macy’s Backstage

Macy’s Backstage held its grand opening ceremony at the Mall at Prince Georges in Hyattsville last month. The concept, which has a separate space on the third floor but is integrated into the multilevel Macy’s, is a department store-outlet hybrid.
The off-price business model focuses on affordable seasonal and trendy options. It is modeled after TJX Cos., which has been relatively immune to competition from e-commerce compared to other fashion retailers. The offshoot launched in New York in fall 2015 with great success. The Mall at Prince Georges began a $30M plan for capital improvements last fall, to be completed by 2018, inspiring ULTA Beauty, Designer Shoe Warehouse and H&M to sign leases there.
