For years, Arlington has felt like a destination city without an actual destination. The central entertainment district, home to the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Rangers and the original Six Flags theme park, has lacked the hotel it needed to become a true 24-hour neighborhood.

That is where David Cordish saw an opportunity.

Cordish serves as CEO and chairman of the board for The Cordish Cos., which has developed some of the most dynamic entertainment and hospitality venues in the world, from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas to Baltimore’s thriving Power Plant district.

Together with Jonathan Tisch, chairman and CEO of Loews Hotels & Co., Cordish has just opened a combination hotel and entertainment complex called Live! by Loews. The development, which sits directly between Globe Life Park and AT&T Stadium, will let sports and entertainment fans not only eat, drink and enjoy themselves after a game, but also spend the night just steps from the stadium.

Though Cordish has already pioneered Live! entertainment districts in cities like Philadelphia and Kansas City, Arlington’s is the first to offer a hospitality component. The Live! by Loews concept is one the company plans to spread across the nation, with another development underway in St. Louis.

“With our partners the city of Arlington, Loews and the Rangers, we are transforming Arlington into a world-class tourist convention hospitality hub,” Cordish said.

Bisnow’s DFW Hospitality Boom! will take place Sept. 5 at Live! by Loews in Arlington, which just opened its doors a few days ago. Cordish will deliver the keynote address after a bevy of panels discussing how hotels are differentiating themselves in the DFW area, and what the landscape for hospitality financing will look like in the coming years.
